The 2026 Grammy Nominations are trending, but why?
The recording academy has released the nominees for the 2026 Grammy Awards. The list has had people talking on social media about their favorite artists, what nominations they found surprising, and even which artists viewers think were snubbed. With award season just around the corner, what is all the buzz about for the Grammys?
In the major categories, popular artists like Kendrick Lamar, Sabrina Carpenter, and Bad Bunny are nominated for multiple categories including Album Of The Year, Song of the year, and Record of The Year. They are up against competition with artists such as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber.
Some nominations that have viewers talking is the category of Best New Artist. One of the largest categories this year with 8 nominees including Olivia Dean, The Marias, Addison Rae, sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and Lola Young. One nomination in particular was surprising to many viewers, global girl group KATSEYE were nominated for best new artist, with lots of K-Pop fans particularly excited about this as this year seems to be a breakthrough for K-Pop in The Grammys.

The nomination for KATSEYE was paired along with the hit song “Golden” performed by HUNTR/X for the popular movie “KPop Demon Hunters” that was released on Netflix in August 2025. The song and movie were considered a huge success with the song getting nods alongside the likes of Bruno Mars and Ariana Grande (best pop duo/ performance). The song also has the honor of joining the nominees for song of the year, one of the most prestigious awards.
Surprises and snubs
With so many musicians and artists in the space and with 23,000 entries entered for the 2026 awards, it is inevitable that some artists would be missing. However, many fans are surprised as famous artist The Weeknd was not nominated for any awards for his sixth studio album “Hurry Up Tomorrow,”. This follows last year's award show where the head of the recording academy Harvey Mason Jr. publicly apologized to The Weeknd on air and validated his complaints against the organization. This was followed by a surprise performance by the artist to the shock and enjoyment of a lot of fans. However despite this viral moment, many fans are concerned and suspicious of his notable absence on the 2026 show.
Other surprises also include the introduction of two new categories including Best Traditional Country Album and Best Album Cover. Nominees for Best Album Cover include Tyler, The Creator and Bad Bunny, and for Best Traditional Country album nominees include country music legend Willie Nelson with his son Lukas Nelson also picking up a nomination in the same category.
With awards season right around the corner in 2026, the competition is stiff this year with the release of this nomination list. The 2026 Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, February 1st, at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles, it will broadcast live on the CBS Television network and be streaming live and on demand on Paramount+.
