Knife-wielding suspects sparks safety concerns on Vanderbilt campus

The campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, were shocked as reports spread of a man reportedly chasing students with a knife, it was revealed by Vanderbilt police the suspect has a criminal history and was previously warned by the law enforcement for trespassing, arrest records show.


FOX 17 News were told by students that they were never alerted about the incidents.


Metro Police say Kiracuras Johnson chased students with a knife early Sunday morning at the Wyatt Center. He faces charges of criminal trespassing and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Johnson’s criminal history includes aggravated burglary in 2009, aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in 2010, and a charge of invasion of privacy in 2024.


“Every time I hear about this, it brings to light more issues with safety and concerns,” said Vanderbilt Student, Daniel Gormezano.

FOX 17 News reached out to Vanderbilt University to raise questions about why no students were alerted about the incident and what measures the university is taking to ensure the safety of students. They are still waiting for a response at this time.


Johnson’s court date is set for October 14th, and he is held on a $15,000 bond.


The case is still ongoing, and more research is being done into why Johnson continues to be released from jail despite multiple felonies.
