‘Frankenstein’ looms over Netflix Charts as No. 1 weekly title
Guillermo Del Toro’s reimagining of Frankenstein is dominating the Netflix charts in its first full week on the service, this has solidified its place as the most watched film from November 10th to the 16th.
The film follows the story of a misunderstood monster who is shunned by his creator and society. Oscar Isaac plays the role of Victor Frankenstein, with Jacob Elordi playing the role of The Creature. The film shares complex themes from the mind of director Guillermo Del Toro, known for previous works such as Pan’s Labyrinth and Pinocchio (2022).
In its first full week on Netflix, Frankenstein brought in 33.8 Million viewers which is up 16% from its premiere week audience. This puts the film at 62.9 Million viewers globally in its first 10 days. This still lands the film with a lot of distance before it reaches Netflix’s most popular film list, but it is in range. Currently, Damsel is No. 10 among streamer’s most popular English films of all time with 138M views, Frankenstein would need just over 75M more views to take its place which it has another 81 days in its premiere window to do.
Frankenstein has also made an impact as the latest addition to Letterboxd’s One Million watched club, which given its limited time so far, is a notable achievement. This continues the support viewers seem to have for the movie as fans continue to talk on social media for their love of the movie.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein is a reimagining of the classic tale by Mary Shelley that follows Victor Frankenstein and his creation and the relationship between them and the ways The Creature’s creator abandoned him along with society. The film is available to stream on Netflix and in select theaters.
